Tinubu Cuts Lagos-Calabar Highway to 6 Lanes, Balances Development with Cost Efficiency and Community Impact
The Federal Government has announced a revision of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, reducing the lane count from 10 to six to lower costs and save critical structures along the route.
During a site inspection, Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, revealed the necessity for design modifications, including addressing deep refuse evacuation and structural adjustments. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s directive aimed at minimizing disruption to existing properties.
The redesigned 750km highway will feature solar-powered streetlights, security cameras, and tree-lined aesthetics for safety and environmental protection. Umahi assured that key sections of the highway will be inaugurated by May 29, 2025.
The project, one of the nation’s most significant infrastructure undertakings, continues to draw widespread attention for its ambition and potential impact.
