Air cargo plane crash-lands at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja
A cargo plane, registered 5N-JRT, crash-landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja on Wednesday at around 10:05 a.m. The aircraft, an E-Cargo plane, was carrying six crew members when the incident occurred due to a failure in one of its landing gears.
Following the crash, all crew members were safely evacuated and are currently undergoing medical evaluations at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit. The airport’s emergency responders acted quickly, securing the crash site and cordoning off the area. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) along with other relevant agencies.
This incident has led to a temporary closure of the airport’s runway, causing significant delays for both inbound and outbound flights. Passengers and airlines are advised to expect travel disruptions until further notice.
Efforts are underway by airport authorities and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to remove the disabled cargo aircraft and inspect the runway for potential damage.
