Boko Haram killed two policemen and a firewood scavenger in Borno
In yesterday’s failed invasion of the Nganzai Police Division in the Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State, gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram Terrorists, BHT, murdered two policemen in Maiduguri.
As a result, five people narrowly avoided death or serious injury after stepping on IEDs while trying to confront the gunmen, while an undetermined number of firewood scavengers were slain by suspected BHT in sections of Gwoza LGA of the state.
While visiting the Nganzai Police Division, Commissioner of Police CP Yusufu Lawal expressed his condolences to the families of the two officers who tragically lost their lives and praised the officers for their bravery.
“On 9th January 2025 at about 12:10 am, unknown gunmen suspected of being Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade Nganzai Police Division. Gallant officers who were on watch repelled the terrorists. After a series of exchanges in gun battle, the terrorists threw hand-grenades, which unfortunately landed on a shelter tent behind the division, fatally wounded two officers,” said Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer.
The two hand grenades were discovered during the scene assessment by the Commissioner of Police. The deceased’s body has been transported to State General Hospital Maiduguri by EOD – CBRN Base 13 in Maiduguri.
The two cops who gave their lives protecting their fellow colleagues were commended by the Commissioner of Police, who also expressed condolences to their families.
“The Command is fully committed to making sure everyone is safe and secure. Please be calm since everything is back to normal now. In case of an emergency, the following numbers might be used: 0802 347 3293 and 0806 807 5581
In a same vein, suspected BHT stormed into Gwoza LGA, massacred an unknown number of firewood scavengers, and left five others critically injured after stepping on IEDs while trying to confront the assailants.
Prior to its recent liberation by forces, Gwoza was officially recognized as a BHT enclave.
Its senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, is a native of the Southern Borno Senatorial District.
Take note that Senator Ndume has been bemoaning the return of BHT attacks on communities inside his constituency for the past two days. These communities include Mandara Mountain in Damboa, Biu’s Mandaga Girau, portions of Ngulde and Ngwahi in Askira/Uba LGA, and Wajirko hamlet in Damboa.
The assault on Sabon Gari of Damboa LGA last week resulted in the death of six troops. The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that a total of thirty-four terrorists were killed in the clash.
There was no confrontation when “some terrorists attacked the victims at the outskirt of Gwoza town around the axis of Yamtake—Izge—Damboa road on Thursday morning,” according to yesterday’s report from the Vanguard reporter.
According to another source, “the renewed cases of onslaught by terrorists was not unconnected with the whole of the North East Theatre Command ‘Operation Hadin KAI’ as obtained in the past” regarding the operational status of the Tucano airstrike jets and military attack helicopters.
Everyone in Gwoza has been in grief since yesterday morning, when the tragedy happened, according to residents and relatives of the dead who want to remain anonymous. They have been pleading with the security forces to preserve the lives and property in the region.
