Gani Adams to S-West governments: Do not disregard Makinde’s warning regarding insecurity

The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, yesterday urged governors in the South-West to be vigilant and establish appropriate structures to secure the region.

Adams, who initiated the call in response to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s warning regarding the influx of bandits fleeing military operations in the North-West, asserted that the governor’s warning was genuine and required immediate consideration.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Kehinde Aderemi, the Yoruba generalissimo exhorted the South West governors to heed the warning, stating that insecurity has been a significant concern in the country.

He stated, “The alarm that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State raised was a wake-up call for all the governors in the South West.” I raised a similar alarm last year, but nothing was done. It is disheartening that nothing has truly changed up to this point, except for the fact that insecurity is increasing by the day.

“The South West Security Stakeholders Group, SSSG, and a few others under my leadership have been making every effort to guarantee the safety of the South West region.”

“However, the situation necessitates an immediate response in order to prevent it from spiraling out of control, as Governor Makinde has issued an alert.”Therefore, I implore governors in the South West to exercise caution and take the necessary steps to resolve the security situation in their respective states before it is too late. We will resist any attempt to transform Yoruba land into a base for outlaws and kidnappers.
