Speed Darlington’s Lawyer Claims ‘Higher Powers’ Behind Singer’s Continued Detention

Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer for Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, who was imprisoned weeks ago on charges of defaming Afrobeats artist Burna Boy, speculates that influential people might be influencing the extended detention.

Despite several pleas, Darlington has been refused administrative bail, Adeyanju disclosed in a statement to The Cable. “Police do not want to give Speed Darlington administrative bail, which is why he has not been released. “They said he jumped bail the first time when we asked them why,” Adeyanju clarified.

He added that powerful people are actively interested in the case, which makes Darlington’s release more difficult. “The fact that numerous high powers are interested in the issue is well known. At the very least, we are arranging to request judicial bail. We were given January 14 and 15 of next year as the dates for his arraignment in court,” he stated.

Adeyanju is adamant about getting Darlington out before the holidays in spite of these obstacles. “Christmas and New Year’s will not be spent in detention for him. We have been making every effort. A motion is being moved. Tomorrow, we’ll be in court once more,” he said.

He went on to say that Darlington’s release is more challenging because influential people are actively involved in the case. “It is well known that the topic is of interest to several high powers. We are at least planning to ask for judicial bail. His arraignment in court is scheduled for January 14 and 15 of next year,” he said.

Despite these challenges, Adeyanju is determined to get Darlington out before the holidays. “He will not spend Christmas or New Year’s in custody. We have been doing everything we can. Something is being relocated. We’ll be in court again tomorrow,” he stated.
