Street peddling is officially prohibited in Borno

Street hawking and other illicit activities in the Maiduguri metropolis have been prohibited by the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB).

The prohibition was in compliance with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002, according to Mr. Limán Mustapha, the General Manager of the board, in a statement distributed on Friday.

He stated that the board has prohibited the operation of generator mechanics, street hawking, and tricycle operators in the vicinity of the Post Office and Monday Market areas of Maiduguri.

Mustapha also stated that the board prohibited any activity on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, as well as the sale of engine oil on road reservations, the disposal of sand or building materials, and the mixing of cement on the roads. Additionally, the board prohibited the construction of boreholes by the roadsides.

According to the manager, the individuals who were impacted by the order were instructed to vacate the occupied sites immediately.

The board is compelled to arrest and prosecute defaulters in a court of law, as it has no other option. The measure will guarantee a clean, secure, and organized urban environment in Maiduguri and other regions of the state.

He urged residents and business proprietors to adhere to the ban in order to prevent legal repercussions. (NAN)
