Three individuals injured and one dead in a multi-truck accident on the Otedola Bridge, according to LASEMA.
The collision’s intensity of impact caused the trucks to become entangled upon impact.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the death of one male and three severely injured individuals in a multiple accident that occurred around Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday.
The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this in a statement, stating that two of the injured victims were promptly transported to the hospital. During the agency’s efforts to retrieve a 40-foot container that had fallen, he stated that numerous incidents occurred.
“During an overnight operation, a multiple accident occurred on the Otedola Bridge along the same axis, while the safe recovery of a fallen 40-foot container for onward transmission to the LASTMA Office in Oshodi was still underway.
“Upon arrival at the adjacent secondary incident site, it was discovered that a multiple truck accident had taken place, involving four articulated trucks that were loaded with containers.”
“The investigation conducted revealed that the incident was the result of reckless driving.” The collision’s intensity of impact caused the trucks to become entangled upon impact.
He stated, “The incident resulted in the death of one adult male who was extricated from beneath the first accident truck.”
In addition, Oke-Osanyintolu stated that three additional adult males suffered injuries of varying severity.
“After receiving on-the-spot medical attention at the scene of the incident, the two victims who were severely injured were transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre,” he maintained.
He also mentioned that additional safety measures were implemented and activated to prevent future incidents at the location.
Immediate medical attention was administered to the accident victims who were rescued and transported to the hospital.
The Federal Road Safety Corps officers on the site were presented with the recovered body and are responsible for taking further action.
The LASEMA manager announced that all affected trucks have been successfully recovered from the road and placed in a layby. The road has been reopened for secure vehicular activities.
