Tragedy Strikes: 3 University Students Die in Ogun Lone Accident
Three students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, lost their lives in a tragic car accident along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye Road in Ogun State.
The incident, confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command, occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday. According to SP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, the lone accident was caused by overspeeding and a loss of control by the driver, leading the vehicle to veer off the road and flip into a nearby bush.
The Opel car, bearing registration number AAA-126 HE, was driven by Adekunle Adebiyi, a resident of 5 Sunmibare Street, Awa Ijebu.
Details of the Incident
- Casualties:
- A male passenger, yet to be identified but believed to be an OOU student, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been deposited at the General Hospital in Ijebu Ode.
- Two female students, Dada Oluwanifesimi (18) and Miracle Daniel (19), were rushed to Love and Care Hospital. Sadly, both succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
- Vehicle Recovery:
The Opel car involved in the accident has been retrieved and is now at the police station for further investigation.
Police Statement
SP Odutola expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the importance of road safety. She urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, especially during the festive season, to prevent similar tragedies.
“The festive period often sees an increase in traffic accidents due to reckless driving. We implore all road users to exercise caution and prioritize safety,” Odutola said.
The Police Command assured the public that further updates on the accident would be communicated as investigations continue.
