Unlocking Lagos’ Tourism Potential: Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Commitment to Economic Growth
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to harnessing the state’s rich tourism potential as a key driver of economic development.
Speaking on Saturday during the Lagos Boat Regatta 2024, themed “Our Water, Our Heritage, Our Life,” Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of Lagos’ waterways as both a cultural asset and a vital component of the state’s economy.
“My administration is committed to exploring our waterways to build a robust tourism ecosystem and expand our transportation network,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The event, held across the state’s five divisions, served as a vibrant celebration of Lagos’ aquatic heritage. Originally set to feature President Bola Tinubu as the Guest of Honour, the regatta showcased diverse cultural displays and underlined the state’s potential as a tourism hub.
Sanwo-Olu declared, “This regatta marks the beginning of numerous activities lined up for the festive season. It’s a clear demonstration of our commitment to developing Lagos’ tourism sector. With one-third of Lagos surrounded by water, we must leverage our waterways not only for transportation but also as a thriving ecosystem for tourism.”
He added, “Today’s event offers an array of cultural displays, showcasing various watercraft from the five divisions of Lagos. It’s a day of pure fun and an opportunity to appreciate the beauty, serenity, and tourism potential of our waterways.”
After inaugurating the event, the Governor joined members of his executive council on a boat ride, encouraging residents to embrace the state’s vibrant waterways.
“This is your chance to relax, unwind, and experience the unique hospitality of Lagos while enjoying the breathtaking scenery,” he said.
The Lagos Boat Regatta 2024 exemplifies the administration’s vision of transforming Lagos into a premier tourism destination, ensuring residents and visitors alike can revel in the state’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
